Dr Tessa Daffern worked closely with NESA to develop the new NSW English syllabus: K-6. Drawing on that experience and insight, along with her extensive research in the field of spelling, Dr Tessa Daffern is uniquely positioned to explain what spelling conventions and strategies should be taught to address syllabus expectations for student learning.
In this workshop, Dr Tessa Daffern will provide examples of how to integrate explicit and systematic teaching of phonics with the phonological, orthographic and morphological components of spelling in the Early Years. She will also illustrate how teachers can use texts, including decodable texts, to teach both decoding and encoding while simultaneously supporting students’ vocabulary and handwriting.
Target audience: NSW school teachers (Early Stage 1 and Stage 1)
Dates: Tuesday 24 September
Time: 3:30 to 6:00pm (AEST)
Delivery mode: live online, via Zoom
This workshop is for NSW school-based educators only. No screenshots, recordings or photographs are permitted.
