Description

This resource is informed by research evidence highlighting the importance of using metalanguage when explicitly teaching spelling.

Metalanguage is a language for talking about the linguistic properties of words.

Dr Daffern’s research has focused on establishing empirical evidence for Triple Word Form Theory as a framework for systematic and explicit teaching of spelling informed by error analysis data. According to Daffern’s research, learning to spell involves learning to coordinate three linguistic words forms efficiently and accurately.
