Dr Tessa Daffern worked closely with NESA to develop the new NSW English syllabus: K – 6. Drawing on that experience and insight, along with her extensive research in the field of spelling, Dr Tessa Daffern is uniquely positioned to explain what spelling conventions and strategies should be taught to address syllabus expectations for student learning.

In this workshop, Dr Tessa Daffern will outline the essential orthographic and morphological conventions to teach. She will also explain how these conventions can be integrated into the teaching of phonological strategies and etymology in ways that simultaneously expand and deepen students’ vocabulary knowledge.
